DIY 3D Printing Projects
Practical, step-by-step projects that take an idea all the way to a finished 3D print. Each project follows the same simple design process so you can understand not only what to do, but why you are doing it.
Concept → Model → Slice → Print → Evaluate
The DIY Workflow
1. ConceptDefine the idea, need, problem, repair, gift, or other reason for the project.
2. ModelChoose the design software, determine dimensions, and create the 3D model.
3. SliceImport the model into a slicer, choose print settings and colours, and visually confirm the result.
4. PrintSend the sliced project to the printer or create the required printer file.
5. EvaluateCheck the finished object for fit, appearance and function, then revise if needed.
DIY Projects
Project 1
DIY Nameplate
Create a personalized nameplate while learning the complete workflow from concept and dimensional design through slicing, printing and evaluation.
The project will include clear design instructions, software steps, slicer setup and print evaluation.

Project 2
DIY TPU Headphone Cover
Design and print a flexible TPU replacement cover for a damaged headphone headband.
This intermediate project uses OpenSCAD and demonstrates an iterative design process: model, print, evaluate a physical problem, revise the geometry, and print the corrected design.

Project 3
Embed One STL into Another Using a Slicer
Customize existing STL files by creating a recess and matching physical inlay directly in the slicer.
This intermediate project demonstrates positioning with X, Y and Z, working around Auto Drop, using Negative Parts, and verifying the final geometry in sliced Preview.

Build Your Skills
Additional DIY projects will be added using the same workflow. Once you understand the process, the method can be applied to increasingly complex designs.
New to 3D printing? The Summit ProtoWorks Education section explains the principles, materials and tools behind the process. DIY Projects puts those ideas into practice.
